Spurs "focusing on the Audi Cup", confirms Mourinho
Tottenham Hostpur manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed his club are now entirely focused on winning the 2021 Audi Cup following a 1-0 loss to Brighton on Sunday evening.
After a string of lacklustre performances, the North London club now sit in 6th place in the Premier League, 11 points adrift of leaders Manchester City, and with talisman Harry Kane injured until mid-February and Gareth Bale still suffering from PTSD from his treatment by former manager Zinedine Zidane, Mourinho admitted their latest title tilt is over.
"I had already accepted this when we couldn't even beat Fulham at home, but now it should be obvious to everyone that we are no longer aiming to win the Premier League.
"I have discussed with Daniel [Levy, club chairman] and he told me the board never expected us to win anything anyway, except for the Audi Cup [a biennial pre-season friendly tournament, which Spurs won back in 2019]. Daniel told me that if we can't retain the Audi Cup, then not only would I lose my job, but the club may as well be put into administration."
