Liverpool fans FURIOUS as asterisk engraved on Premier League trophy

Liverpool fans were left outraged earlier today when it was revealed that an asterisk has been engraved next to the club's name on the Premier League trophy.

The Merseyside club secured their first league title in 30 years (and first since the inception of the Premier League in 1992) when Manchester City lost 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and fans took to the streets to celebrate in spite of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

But joy quickly turned to fury when it was revealed that the Premier League ordered Aspreys of London, the master engravers tasked with touching up English football's most coveted trophy every year, to engrave an asterisk next to Liverpool's name.

According to reports, the asterisk is intended to denote the disruptions caused by the deadly COVID-19 virus, which saw all top-flight football postponed for three months in the middle of Liverpool's most triumphant season.

A spokesperson for the Premier League claimed they made the decision because it would be 'disingenuous and unfair to those teams who won the title under normal circumstances' to mark the 2019-20 season without any explanation as to the global pandemic which potentially changed its outcome.
