Coronavirus: Disappointment as cricket events continuing as normal
Millions of sports fans were disappointed to learn that all cricket events are going ahead as normal despite coronavirus concerns.
With numerous high profile events across the globe either being played behind closed doors or cancelled due to coronavirus (also referred to as covid-19), such as the BNP Paribas Open, one of tennis' biggest tournaments, many had expected cricket events to follow suit.
But to the disappointment of people with personalities everywhere, the International Cricket Council confirmed this morning that all scheduled cricket events, including the T20 World Cup later this year, will, until further notice, go ahead as normal.
In a dispirited statement, the ICC wrote:
"It is with deep disappointment and regret that we announce all scheduled cricket matches are to go ahead as planned.
"We had hoped that with the spreading of coronavirus and other events being cancelled, we would be able to follow suit and give our fans the opportunity to branch out and watch some sports with some actual entertainment value, but unfortunately we have been advised that the situation is not yet severe enough to justify such a cancellation."
In other news, the PGA Tour has yet to confirm if it will be cancelling any golf tournaments. Dark times indeed.
