Concern for Ferguson's mental state after complimenting Liverpool

Manchester United are "growing concerned" about Sir Alex Ferguson's health after the former manager complimented Liverpool during this year's League Managers Association Awards.

The 78-year-old was chosen to present the LMA Manager of the Year award, won by Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp after winning the Merseyside club's first league title in 30 years.

In a pre-recorded message, Ferguson congratulated the German for a "marvellous" season and even admitted his former bitter rivals' level was "outstanding", to the horror of Manchester United fans watching the event, presumably hoping Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would win the award for scraping a third place finish and securing Champions League football next season.

"I couldn't believe what I was watching", said lifelong fan Pradeep Singh, from India. "Fergie was clearly unwell. 35 seconds and not one reference to 'scouse bastards' or 'scum', no reference to knocking them off their perch or the fact they've still only won one Premier League title compared to his 13.

"It was disturbing, watching him sit there and gush over Liverpool and that toothy bastard, Klopp. He nearly smiled at one point. That's not the Sir Alex Ferguson we know and love. 10 years ago, if Ferguson saw a Liverpool fan drowning he'd piss in the water to make it deeper. He might have dementia; clearly, something isn't right."
