Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor to compete at Winter Olympics
In a twist that nobody asked for, Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor have agreed terms to face each other at the Winter Olympics.
Mayweather and McGregor, superstars in their respective sports, have confirmed (for reasons unbeknownst to anyone) they will compete in a number of events at this year's Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. 'MayMac' first faced each other in a boxing ring on 26th August 2017, with Mayweather predictably winning by TKO in the 10th round. Rumours had been circulating that a rematch would take place in the UFC octagon, but discussions broke down after Mayweather demanded no takedowns, grappling or touching his face at any time. The fighters will compete against each other in their own separate events, not against any recognised Olympians. They will go head-to-head in the following sports: - Skiing; - Bobsleigh (Monobob); - Ski jumping; - Snowboarding; and - Figure skating. Mayweather, always quick to justify his decisions, had this to say: "This is about giving the fans what they want to see. Who wouldn't want to see Floyd 'Money' Mayweather at the Winter Olympics? "I'm just here to show everyone I'm the best. Floyd Mayweather is the face of skiing, the face of bobsleigh, the face of the Winter Olympics. Conor McGregor couldn't beat me in a boxing ring, and now I'm about to show everybody that he can't beat me on the snow or on the ice either." Each event will be PPV and will be televised on Showtime (US) for $59.99 per event and Sky Sports Box Office (UK) for £29.99 per event. The overall winner will receive a diamond-encrusted, solid gold belt made especially by the World Boxing Council (WBC), though why they have made it is anyone's guess.
